Samsung kills its camera and camcorder business in the UK

First it was laptops and Chromebooks, now it's cameras and camcorders. In a statement to TechRadar, Samsung has confirmed that it's quietly abandoning the two product categories in the UK. Why? "Sustained decline in demand," according to the company. That means you'll no longer see itsDSLR-inspired NX1 or its sleek, mirrorless NX500 on store shelves.
"We quickly adapt to market needs and demands. In the UK, we have seen a gradual and sustained decline in demand for standalone digital cameras and camcorders and related accessories. For this reason, we have taken the decision to phase out the sales and marketing of these products. This is a local decision, based on local market conditions."
Samsung's withdrawal isn't a complete surprise, given the current state of the camera market. Smartphones just keep getting better -- look at the shots produced by the iPhone 6s Plus, Sony's Xperia Z5 and the Nexus 6P. They're truly great and many are now relying on them for all of their photography needs. In response, the camera industry is leaning towards prosumer and professional customers, where top-end mirrorless cameras and DSLRs reign supreme. Canon, Nikon and the like are well-positioned, but it seems some companies -- like Samsung, which is known for its cheaper alternatives -- are struggling to make the transition.
Of course, this is just one region and one camera manufacturer. Still, it's a stark reminder of how photography is changing and the types of cameras people are now buying. For Samsung, it could also be a smart business move as it tries to get back to its monstrous quarterly profits from 2013.

Rumor Has It: A Slimmer iPhone 7 is On Its Way with No Charging Point

Rumor has it that Apple is working on a new technology whereby the next generation smartphones need not have any charging port. The gadgets will be charged with the help of “electrical connectors”. Without the charging port the phone is going to become a lot sleeker and chic. We came to know about this new technology, on which Apple is working, from the patent that it has submitted recently. This patent was at first filed in 2013 and again it was published on 2nd July, 2015.

The patent document reveals that the “electrical connectors” which would be used for charging the next generation iPhone 7 will be concealed inside the body of the phone. This in turn is also going to make iPhone 7 a lot more sturdy as their will be fewer openings and there are less chance of the software to be exposed to dirt and dust. And at the same time we can expect a sleek and slim iPhone 7.
Apple plans to embed the connectors behind the logo of the brand present on the back of the phone. We are not really sure whether Apple is going to use the same technology as present in Apple watch or use a different technology for charging the phone. In the Watch Apple has introduced magnetic charger for charging the gadget. The same innovation can be used in iPhone 7. Or Apple can embed a wireless charging unit behind the Apple logo. There are also rumors that the Apple icon on the back of the phone is going to contain heart rate counting monitor.
Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge is already integrated with wireless charging unit whereby the gadgets will be charged by simply placing them on a charging pad. Apple being the closest competitor of Samsung cannot fall behind. Therefore, chances of iPhone 7 integrated with a wireless charging unit is high. However, it is difficult to interpret what Apple meant document when it mentioned in the patent “dock or charging station”.
We must also keep in mind that Apple often submits patents for registration, thereby making it really difficult to guess when this technology will be introduced. However, let us be optimistic and hope that iPhone 7 comes with wireless charging unit using this new technology.

Apple acknowledges iPad Pro screen blackouts, offers no immediate word of upcoming fix

Apple on Thursday posted a new support document on its website, responding to complaints about iPad Pros suddenly going black and refusing to accept touch or button input.

The issue can be temporarily resolved by force restarting, Apple said. This involves holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds or more until the Apple logo appears onscreen.

The company added that it's "investigating" the glitch, but didn't indicate whether it was working on a solution, only promising that it would update the document as new information emerges.

The blackout problem has been known since the Pro shipped last week, with some owners complaining on Apple's support forums and to sites like AppleInsider.

A common factor appears to be charging. Numerous anecdotes have pointed to blackouts occurring after charging the tablet for an extended period of time.
